Luckily, creating a tempo map in Reaper is really quite simple. The first step is to create a dedicated track for the click using the Command T keyboard shortcut. Next, open the Insert menu and come down to Click Source. The session tempo information will automatically load onto the the audio track you’ve created. Next, you’ll want to select whole notes as the value for your tempo map.

An important thing to keep in mind is the last shown tempo marker is not correct. Everything other than the last marker is correct. Continue in this fashion, positioning the mouse over each downbeat and pressing your shortcut key. Soon you will see your new tempo map taking shape.

When you want to start the tempo change insert a Tempo/Time Signature Marker (found in the insert menu) Leave tempo and time signature to the current values. Check "Gradually transition tempo to next marker" When you want to finish the transition, insert a new T/TS Marker. Set its tempo and time signature to the final values you want to end on.

SWS/BR: Create tempo markers at grid after every selected tempo marker; SWS/BR: Insert envelope points on grid using shape of previous point; As the name suggest, this action will insert new tempo markers (or envelope points if using second version) at grid while preserving the whole tempo map.
